Abstract

Parents’ perceptions about learning Bajo tribe are coloured by cultural factors (history, languages, social systems, traditions and customs) and the pattern of life that is always oriented in the ocean with only the livelihoods of the fisherman who still tend to use traditional tools. Knowledge of fishing (fishing, using nets and gillnets) they consider more important and more important than studying in school. Even if one thinks that school is important, but it was not for the Bajo. Such perceptions affect their children, including age of basic education which is now called 9-year Compulsory Basic Education with the attitude that tends to negative and almost static for learning (schools) to show attitude like truant, not doing a homework assignment and left the classroom in teaching and learning process while the parents unload the result after coming home, of seeking fortune at sea.
