Abstract

The successful achievement of education mainly depends on the performance of people working on it, particularly that of the teachers. To attain the objectives of education, good performance (based on standard) of teachers is highly needed. This research was conducted to explore the discrepancy between the standards and teachers’ performance in reality. Competency becomes permanent factor that influence teachers’ performance. The problems of the research are represented in the following questions: (1) How well is the competence of the teachers of Madrasah Aliyah in Watampone?, (2) Is their competence influence their working performance of Madrasah Aliyah teachers in Watampone. The method used in gathering data was survey with a quantitative approach. The population of the study was all teachers of Madrasah Aliyah in Watampone which consists of 180 people. The sample size was 72 teachers that were selected by using incidental sampling technique. However, there were only 69 respondents answered the questionnaire. The data were analysed statistically in descriptive and qualitative way. The results show that: (1) the competencies of Madrasah Aliyah’s teachers in Watampone are eligible to standard (high), and (2) the competencies significantly influence the teachers’ working performance.
